The Resurrection of Kurt CobainDream Date: January, 2003 Texas highway flat barren oil pumps nodding in rhythm to the counterbalances pulling the metal heads up and down all encased in the round portal of an old television with old cranking knobs rabbit ears and resting on four golden metallic legs in a room lit by the sunlight creeping around heavy floral print curtains. Music. Strong rhythmic guitar very clearly Nirvana droning as the highway passes under the camera and the oil pumps move slowly beyond the periphery and now the scene is no longer on the television but what I see in my mind as I dream. I have a choice to follow the highway and the music in the air and decide I will as the music continues to drone on melodically. Texas flat barren oil fields turn to green hills and granite snowcapped mountains to red rock mesas and cacti and yucca trees of Utah up and into the god-forsaken brown of the desert Northwest Americas. The music builds more tone distortion bass beats the desert and rock morphs to forest green and junglesque clouds low in the sky cold wet air and moss growing on the rooftops. Forest turns to city turns to streets lined with houses and telephone poles and driveways and sidewalks and people and shops all under a gray rolling sky drizzling rain and music holds a tense distorted chord growing louder and louder as the vision leaves the street passes up a driveway into open garage of a gray home up a flight of wooden stairs leading to an attic above the garage with a wooden floor. The room is bare of objects save the body of Kurt Cobain and his shotgun. Chord atomic reverberating shaking the floor and the parts of what were once Kurt Cobain reassemble reshape slide across the floor time reverses Kurt Cobain’s body is made whole sits up in a backwards time motion. The atomic chord strikes several times over as Cobain is resurrected stands. Cord holds then diminishes changes to strong rhythmic guitar of the highway and Kurt circles me looking into my face and singing of the terrible decision he made to end his life and only now from the grave does he understand it all but too late. Much too late. |
