The Executioner’s Invoice

For the services rendered November 16, 1657, against the confessed witch, William Giles, as to be paid in full by the estate of William Giles within 30 said days from this date, November 20, 1657.

  1. For the ripping apart by four horses: 3 pounds, 6 shillings
  2. For quartering: 2 pounds, 6 shillings
  3. For hanging the four quarters in four corners, rope, chains, and the transport necessary: 3 pounds
  4. For travel and daily expenses: 14 shillings
  5. For the use of a helper: 1 pound
  6. For the hay, stabling, and foddering of my horse: 5 shillings
  7. For the parchment to provide this invoice: 1 pence
Total: 10 pounds, 11 shillings, 1 pence

Let us hope your payment is provided timely and in full and the evil found in William Giles has fled your family.
