September 22, 2005Harvest. Reaping. Necessary death to feed the living. A time suspended between past and future tense. A time suspended between life and death. And I stand in the middle looking in all directions at once. The past haunting. The future looming. A perfect time to surrender. Soon the big-ass orange King Kong moon will hover between the two small peaks of Camelback Mountain and I will sit in my backyard and howl. Or—err—maybe just sit there and look at it while I smoke a cigar smirkingly smirking at the thought of transmogrifying into a werewolf and eating the neighbor’s dog that won’t stop barking but deciding that isn’t such a good idea because everyone knows I’m the only werewolf in the neighborhood and I’d surely be arrested and unable to enjoy the crisp nights of autumn in the desert because I’d be in Sheriff Joe’s jail downtown wearing pink underwear and an orange jumpsuit wishing I were back in my chair in my backyard smoking a cigar looking at the big-ass orange King Kong moon hovering over Camelback Mountain as I bask in the coolness of autumn while summer hides in the south for a spell and I slowly surrender to the spirits surrounding me in the swirling smoke of my smoldering cigar. |
