The Writing MachineStories by Christian Cloud Abraham
September 11th, 2005September 11th... what have I learned? I have leaned that ignorance is fatal; the impossible is possible; technology is no match for ingenuity; we are not safe--not now--not ever; the enemy is a hydra with heads that are everywhere and a body that is nowhere; no one is innocent; our society is fragile beyond comprehension; people do not commit such horrific crimes for no good reason; absolute compassion and absolute revenge both lead to death absolutely; ignorance and fear breed hate; understanding destroys ignorance; knowledge is not the same as understanding; what is evil to one is good to another; fear breeds fanaticism; fanaticism is a wounded animal; the most dangerous animal is a wounded animal; the world is full of wounded animals; I am wounded too; I am only one man--can I make a difference? There is hope, but there is only one way... forgiveness; and by saying that I am either a fool or a traitor. And now, a moment to grieve those who have fallen--be it us or the enemy--and reflect on compassion, respect, and understanding: these three are my dream for today and the future.
