The One

“The needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few—or the One.”
— Mr. Spock, justifying his self-sacrificing death in, The Wrath of Kahn

In the beginning
   there was only the One
And in that One
there was only light and joy
And in that light and joy
   there was only the One
And the One beheld all it saw
there is where it met the None
And in that None
there was only timelessness and void
And in that timelessness and void
   there was only the None
And in the None stood the One
   there upon a seraph’s wings
And out from the One lightning burst
there was space within the void
And out from the One thunder roared
there was depth where once was no time
And the One beheld all it saw
there is where it saw it had become the None
And the None beheld all it saw
there is where it saw it had become the One
And the None beheld the One
and the One beheld the None

And there is where the circle of life began
